Scoring the equaliser on Sunday afternoon against West Ham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was unable to help Manchester United pick up the valuable three points they were looking for at Old Trafford.

At fault for the Hammers’ goal, the Swedish striker somewhat made up for his error thanks to Paul Pogba’s lofted through-ball, but, despite scoring nine goals from his first 19 appearances, fans and the media alike are expecting more from Ibrahimovic.

For example, his last season with Paris Saint-Germain saw the now 35-year-old score 50 in 51 games, and it’s this goalscoring record that has placed a lot of pressure on Zlatan’s shoulders.

Down their end, Paris Saint-Germain have struggled a bit without their reliable goalscorer, despite Edinson Cavani scoring an impressive 18 goals in 17 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions.

Currently third in Ligue 1 behind Nice and Monaco, Unai Emery’s men have found life a bit more difficult, yet some people, including Le Parisien’s journalist Ronan Folgoas, believe the club are better off without Ibrahimovic, agreeing with something former Paris Saint-Germain Paul Le Guen said.

In a Q&A with readers on Monday, he said: “[Since Zlatan left,] Cavani has imposed his style of finishing over the past few weeks, becoming the king of the box. This leaves space for others to express themselves. One day it’s Lucas, another it’s Di Maria or Rabiot etc… Ibra used to drop deeper and attracted the game his way. To say that they are better since Zlatan left, however, that might be pushing it…”
