West Ham United midfielder Guido Rodriguez is closing in on a move to Argentine giants River Plate.
That’s according to TNT Sports Argentina, via Estadio Deportivo, who say that negotiations are advancing for the West Ham man to return to his homeland.
The newspaper explains that River Plate are one of the sides set to benefit from the short transfer window opened earlier ahead of the Club World Cup and they are already using that to their advantage.
They want to sign Rodriguez from West ham so that he can play in the tournament in the USA, where they will take on Urawa Red Diamonds, Inter Milan and Rayados de Monterrey in Group E.
The first target to reinforce their midfield is Rodriguez, who is a ‘long-time acquaintance’ of the fans and would be warmly welcomed.
He’s free to leave West Ham as he’s seemingly not a part of Graham Potter’s plans after a disappointing first season since joining on a free transfer in the summer.
Negotiations between the two clubs are progressing well and an agreement is now close. The Argentine side are even willing to pay, albeit an undisclosed fee, to get the midfielder.
Rodriguez has already shown a willingness to make the move after coming through the club’s youth system between 2014 and 2015. He’s excited about playing in the Club World Cup this summer and doing his part to get the deal over the line.
This seems to be the latest development on Rodriguez’s move, with TNT Sports journalist Maxi Grillo reporting last week that there was a deal there to be done.
“Guido Rodríguez is a real possibility,” he said.
“River Plate believes that, with a little pressure from the player and some more contact, the deal can be finalized.”
