If you’ve been following our coverage of the Idrissa Gueye mini saga then you’ll know a big theme of it has been the French media throwing around different asking prices from Everton almost on a daily basis.
The Merseyside club have been presented as greedy for asking a big fee for their midfielder, and an inconvenience the big and worthy PSG need to swat aside.
Given all of that, a line from L’Equipe’s Wednesday report on the potential move is rather interesting: ‘The demand from the Toffees has not changed: from around €30m to €35m.’
On January 10th, L’Equipe said Everton were being ‘greedy’ and asking PSG for €45m.
On January 14th, L’Equipe said the ‘specific amount’ Everton wanted was €30m, but that internally the English club had agreed on €20m as the player’s value and were just trying use the ‘PSG effect’ to their advantage’.
On January 19th, L’Equipe went with at least their third price in ten days, as they claimed Everton are demanding ‘around €40m’.
Pin the tail in the Gueye, and that’s no slight on the player’s ability.
On Wednesday it’s reiterated that PSG have made a €25m offer, which isn’t going to be enough. However, positions are said to be closing and talks have ‘intensified in recent hours’.
The move ‘advances fast’, quicker than other possibilities for PSG, and Gueye himself is ‘determined’ to make the transfer happen.
