A few days ago there were claims from Spain that Carles Gil’s future is so up in the air that an Aston Villa stay hasn’t even been ruled out.
Spending last season on loan at Deportivo La Coruna, it was always unlikely that Gil would return to have a serious role under Steve Bruce, and the Spaniard’s own words haven’t made that sound like a desired outcome.
But, even if they don’t expect or want Gil to be part of their squad next season, it’s wise for Aston Villa to at least put that possibility out there, it could help when negotiating a transfer fee.
Mundo Deportivo report that Deportivo have ‘accelerated’ talks with Aston Villa to sign Gil for next season, and possibly beyond. There’s a real desire to secure Gil, and do so quickly.
The primary desire of the Spanish club is to get Gil on another loan, but Aston Villa may be looking for a permanent deal this time around, which could be difficult for Depor.
Betis were also said to be keen in the Spanish report of a few days ago, and that could be useful for Aston Villa.
