Colombia are currently outside of the places which bring automatic qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. South America’s group is notoriously tough, with big nations often missing out on the tournament.
Brazil currently top the table with nine points from three matches, whilst Colombia are in seventh with four points from three matches.
They lost their last match 3-0 to Uruguay, and Tottenham’s Davinson Sanchez has sent out a rallying cry to his international teammates.
Colombia face Ecuador away this evening, a tough match against the country currently third in the qualifying league.
Should Sanchez’s side lose then they’d be five points behind Ecuador already and the pressure will really start to pile on, ahead of their next match, in March, against leaders Brazil.
El Heraldo quote the Tottenham player as saying: “Uruguay cannot happen to a competitive team like us again. Doing is more than talking. Here we all have the responsibility to turn it around.”
The Spurs man is one of the senior players in the team, along with Everton’s James Rodriguez and Yerry Mina, and the latter two were roundly criticised after the loss to Uruguay.
