A serious target for Chelsea towards the end of the transfer window, Alessio Romagnoli eventually ended up staying at AC Milan.
The newly Chinese backed Serie A club were in a position to refuse an offer nearing €40m for the young centre-back from the Premier League side, and, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the player is expecting a sign from Milan regarding a new contract.
While not as urgent as some of his other teammates, tying down the defender would show a vote of confidence from the club in his direction, as well as send a message to any possible suitors that he would cost them a lot of money.
Valued at €25m last summer when he was bought by the Milan-based club from Roma, the fact his price tag rose so much in the Serie A club’s eyes over the course of one season says a lot about his talent, and how much they want him to stay.
Of course, there’s nothing stopping him having a great season and a Premier League club coming along and slapping a much improved bid on their table next season, but, for the time being, a renewal will have to do.
