Pontus Jansson has told the Swedish media why he decided to join Leeds United in the summer. The Sweden international is currently on loan with the Championship side from Torino, and this can be made permanent if the defender plays twenty games for the club this season.
Speaking to Aftonbladet, Jansson was asked why he took the decision to leave Serie A and join Leeds United. The 25-year-old revealed as soon as he arrived at Leeds United he knew there was something special about the place. Jansson said that once he met Garry Monk he felt good because he knew a coach finally believed in him.
“It was just something with Leeds that felt right from the first moment. The first time I saw Garry Monk… It was a 20-metre corridor, and we came from different directions. He lit up instantly, jumped on me and hugged me. I received direct this feeling: At last, a coach who really believes in me, that I can have a relationship with,” said the Swede.
Jansson has been a revelation since arriving at Elland Road, and given his latest comments the central defender looks ready to commit to the club. The former Malmo player has formed a solid partnership with Kyle Bartley, and after two troubled seasons at Torino now seems to be enjoying his football again.
