Nottingham Forest fans today woke up to the news that the club had been finalising another summer deal by signing Alex Moreno from Real Betis.
A couple of reports from Spain said the Reds would buy the fullback for a fee of €10.5m, plus another €4.5m in potential performance bonuses.
With stories saying the deal was ‘very close’, it really seemed like Moreno was on his way to England. However, a big turnaround has taken place, and the player has decided to stay at his club.
On Twitter, the 29-year-old released a statement directed to Betis fans. He explained that the club will ‘continue being his home this season’.
Moreno confirms that both he and his club received an offer for a summer move, and said he was thankful for the interest. Despite that, he’s evaluated the situation and decided to stay in Spain for longer.
The fullback said that the ‘affection from fans, the sporting project and the confidence they showed’ in him is what convinced him of staying at Betis for one more season.
So in the coming weeks, it should be no surprise to see Nottingham Forest going for another left-back.
