Matheus Cunha’s potential move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Manchester United could be tied up by a battle between ‘super-agents’.
That’s according to Trivela, who report that Jorge Mendes and Giuliano Bertolucci could be set to go head-to-head over the deal.
Reports in England have indicated that Manchester United are pushing ahead with a move for Cunha, who has a €62.5m release clause in his current contract at Wolves. United are seemingly happy to pay that as they plan a summer overhaul for Ruben Amorim.
However, any deal will need to approved by Jorge Mendes, who still has ‘great influence’ at Wolves according to Trivela’s information.
He plays a big role on club decisions and currently six players in the squad are managed by his agency, Gestifute. According to Trivela, all ‘high impact’ transfers are approved by him and Cunha would be no different. Mendes helped Cunha move to Wolves and would be a key figure in him going to Manchester United.
He doesn’t represent the Brazilian directly, though. That honour belongs to Bertolucci, one of the biggest names in Brazilian player management. Trivela report that Bertolucci had to negotiate with Mendes to take Cunha to Wolves in 2023.
Thus, the two agents are likely to be going head-to-head again in this deal, with the suggestion that any move to Manchester United won’t happen unless Mendes approves it on Wolves behalf first.
