Sunderland star Fabio Borini has been linked with a return to Italy over the past few days.
The former Liverpool forward is reportedly wanted by AS Rome and AC Milan in January, but it now appears the deal has already been dismissed.
According to Italian website Calciomercato, AC Milan met the representatives of Fabio Borini to know the situation of the Italian forward and understand the feasibility of a possible deal.
Calciomercato say Sunderland have immediately raised a ‘high wall’ for Borini. The Premier League side don’t want to send Borini on loan with the option to buy, and will only sell him permanently for a considerable transfer fee.
Borini has missed the majority of this season so far due to a groin injury, and has just one goal to his name in six appearances.
Given that Sunderland would struggle to bring a replacement in for Borini, a January exit wouldn’t look the wisest of moves from David Moyes.
