Pierre-Michel Lasogga missed out for Leeds United on Sunday, as the club got their promotion efforts back on track. In what felt like a huge match against Middlesbrough, the return of Garry Monk certainly added to the build-up.
It all gave Leeds the perfect opportunity to pick themselves up and provide a confidence boost throughout the squad, a squad which has been dealt several blows in terms of results recently and has been on something of a downer.
On the other hand, seeing Monk walk away with all three points, with perhaps some cutting comments after the game, would have made everything much worse.
Fortunately for Leeds United they managed to a get a 2-1 victory, and the home fans left thoroughly happy.
Lasogga wasn’t in the match-day squad, with local Leeds reports the player has been suffering from illness. Over in Hamburg it’s been presented in a slightly different way, for a different audience.
Hamburger Morgenpost put out an article stating Leeds United won without Lasogga, who was ‘not even in the squad’. There’s no mention of illness or injury, and readers are left to think it was a tactical decision.
One German fan subsequently commented: ‘That sounds familiar’
It’s of course misleading from MoPo if Lasogga was out through illness, and they’re perhaps trying to stir the pot. Hamburg, meanwhile, lost again, 2-0 to Schalke.
