Frustration continues at Barcelona over Ousmane Dembele’s contract situation, reports ABC.
The Frenchman’s contract expires at the end of the current season, and from January he can sign a pre-contract agreement with another club. In recent weeks there’s been repeat claims from Spain that Dembele wants to continue at the Camp Nou, and it’s the player’s agent Moussa Sissoko who is causing problems.
Previously it had been reported that those representing Dembele were looking for the attacker to be paid at the level of the best in the world, and Barcelona weren’t prepared to go that far, even if their financial situation allowed.
ABC now report there’s a suspicion the agent is looking for a ‘large commission’ for himself, and would get this if his client was available on a free transfer.
Newcastle United once again get a mention, with it made clear that a move to Eddie Howe’s side would benefit the player and his representatives financially.
The Magpies are the only club named as a possible destination, and it may be that Newcastle are continuing to be used to put further pressure on Barcelona.
Given there’s doubt over how tempted Dembele would be over a move to the Premier League club, it may not have the desired trick with Barca. They can only go so high on wages right now, and there’s pressure being applied for a renewal to be agreed before the end of the year.
