We’re still not buying that West Ham have been as interested in Loren Moron this summer as the Spanish media insist.
Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo reported ‘strong interest’ from the Hammers had pushed Real Betis into trying to close a renewal with the forward.
It was claimed West Ham had been ready to pay the player’s €25m clause, and that made Betis panic.
But, as we stated at the time, if the Premier League club had wanted to pay the clause there was no need to wait, no need for negotiation, they could have just done it. All they would have needed is the player’s will, and without knowing he wanted to join them there would have been no need for the Hammers to even consider the clause.
It didn’t make a great deal sense, but Marca continue it on Tuesday.
Loren has now signed his new contract and his new clause starts at €40m and will progressively move to €60m. Marca say this rush to action is because of the ‘strong interest’ of West Ham.
Someone is pushing this line to the Spanish media, and it makes Betis and the player look good.
Had the interest really been as strong as now claimed, it’s odd the same Spanish media weren’t reporting it heavily before.
West Ham and their summer spending spree will see clubs and agents using them as a transfer and renewal lever.
