Real Madrid still don’t look close to replacing the goals of Cristiano Ronaldo, and whilst El Confidencial say there’s a insistence of ‘tranquility’ being pushed out of the Spanish club, it’s explained there’s work going on behind the scenes.

Florentino Perez has apparently dropped his Galactico thirst and is now a numbers man, looking at statistics to find someone who consistently scores around 30 goals a season.

That’s bad news for Alvaro Morata, with El Confidencial claiming the Chelsea player has ‘knocked on the door’ of his former club to ask about a return.

Had choices been made differently, and Morata not forced his way out of Madrid, there’s every chance he would have enjoyed more opportunities last season as the club struggled for goals at times.

That could have led to Morata entering the current season as a major player for the Spanish club, but instead he’s hoping things improve for him under Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.

El Confidencial say Morata has been knocked back. It’s not a complete no, but Real Madrid being keen is only a ‘remote option’ and would be considered a last minute thing if other targets failed.

The two standout candidates for Madrid are said to be Robert Lewandowski and Edinson Cavani. It may be worth keeping an eye on the latter situation.
