Last summer, we saw Alfredo Morelos leaving Rangers after the six years he spent at the Scottish side, never getting a chance to work with Philippe Clement.
Despite the many rumours about potential destinations, he ended up leaving Ibrox to return to South America, where he signed for Santos, who were on the brink of relegation.
Morelos couldn’t do a lot about that and ended up going to the Serie B with the club. Now as he scored his first goal this week, Globo Esporte shares some interesting details of his new contract after leaving Rangers.
It’s said that when he left Ibrox to join Santos, he had agreed to a salary worth R$900k (€168k) a month. Then, following the relegation, there was a new agreement with lower costs.
Morelos reportedly accepted to cut over 60% of his wages. In exchange, he wanted a signing bonus, a contract extension and a bonus for each goal he scores for Santos from now on.
The striker scored the winner in the Paulista Championship match against São Paulo, and according to Globo Esporte, the club are paying R$10k (€1870) for that and every other goal he scores for the club.
That was the first goal Morelos scored since leaving Rangers last summer. Now to make some money in Brazil, he’ll need to score many more.
