Newcastle United are ‘far from having said their last word’ on Stade de Reims striker Hugo Ekitike after their efforts in the January transfer window.
That’s according to But! Football Club, who say the Magpies are not ‘holding grudges’ about the player’s rejection in January and are planning future moves.
The French U20 striker, who has been starring in Ligue 1 this season with ten goals and four assists in 24 games so far, ‘remains a top priority’ for the summer.
Eddie Howe and co have continued their ‘seduction’ behind the scenes, and the striker is ‘responsive’ to this ‘prolonged interest’.
In fact, those in charge at Newcastle are growing more confident they can get their man, with it stated that there is ‘optimism’ at St James Park that they can get their man despite competition from the likes of Borussia Dortmund.
They are waiting for the green light to push a deal over the line and are willing to ‘invest heavily’ in a deal that could exceed €30m.
Newcastle simply want to receive the go-ahead from the youngster and will then push to make a deal happen, and an answer from Ekitike is said to be ‘imminent’.
