There are a few players in the Portuguese league who we see being linked to Premier League sides year after year, but haven’t made the move so far.
One of these is Braga star Paulinho, who’s been pointed out as a target for a few clubs this year, including Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The striker spoke to newspaper Record today, in a four-page interview, and was directly quizzed about this potential move to Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.
“Nothing came from Wolverhampton, but I’d like to play in England,” Paulinho told Record.
“All the players would like it. We’re talking about the best league in the world, the most competitive league in the world.”
Paulinho is protected by a release clause of €30m, and was asked if he sees himself leaving Braga for less than that amount.
“This has to be with the president. But I think he’ll only say that to see if someone wants to come and buy. I don’t know why, I didn’t speak to him about it. When we signed those terms, the two parties agreed. The rest, if it’s for lower values, is because the club think it’d make sense.”
The striker joined Braga on a free move from Gil Vicente in the summer of 2017. Since then, he holds a record of 61 goals and 22 assists in 146 appearances for the club.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio was one of those who in the summer said Paulinho was ‘close’ to making a move to the Molineux side.
