A couple of weeks ago, the Portuguese media was pretty sure that Paulinho was leaving Braga to join Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Reports were confident that Wolves were triggering the striker’s €30m release clause, and the move was labelled as ‘imminent’.

So it was strange to see the Portuguese media going silent about it lately, but the rumour is brought back by the Italian press today.

Gianluca Di Marzio writes that even though Lazio are interested in Paulinho, the player is actually ‘close’ to Wolves.

It’s claimed that this is a €25m operation managed by Jorge Mendes. That makes it hard for Lazio to compete, since their €15m bid was rejected by Braga.

That’s all Gianluca Di Marzio has to say for now, and it makes us wonder if in these two weeks of silence, Wolves have been negotiating to pay a little less than the release clause.

Paulinho had 25 goals and nine assists for Braga this season, and could be one of the biggest talents to leave Portugal this summer.
