Tuesday saw the emergence of a new possible landing spot for Stoke City’s Giannelli Imbula in Lecce in Serie A.
The newly promoted side are looking for a ‘warrior’ in midfield to help them stay up, and they have turned their attention to the former Marseille midfielder, who has made it painfully clear he wants to leave the bet365 Stadium this summer for a new adventure.
That’s fine by Stoke, who have agreed to let him train for the U23s until he finds himself a new club, and an exit would help them get rid of his salary off the wage bill.
It was reported by journalist Sacha Tavolieri that an agreement between Lecce and the Championship side had been reached for a loan with a view to buy at €4m, and all that was needed was for Giannelli Imbula to say whether or not he fancied the move.
Gazzetta dello Sport echo this on Wednesday, explaining the midfielder has yet to accept personal terms from the Italian side, and negotiations are still ongoing to that effect.
We’ll keep you updated on anything else Imbula related in the coming days, but it would be a big surprise if the midfielder was still a Stoke player come the end of the European transfer window.
