On the same day the English media break the news that Xherdan Shaqiri could be on his way to Liverpool, with talks opening between Stoke and the Reds, Corriere dello Sport believe he is also an option for Lazio in Italy.
As things stand, the Serie A side aren’t quite sure what their summer budget is, waiting for sales to see where they stand financially, but the opportunity to sign a Premier League winger for €17m doesn’t present itself every day, especially with the Swiss forward ‘ready to say yes to a €2.5m/year contract’.
The Italians are mulling over the possibility of signing the Stoke star, but if Liverpool’s interest is as real as everyone in England are making it out to be, they are going to need to act very fast if they want to trump Jürgen Klopp to his signing.
A move to Anfield and a stay in the Premier League appear to be his priority, but the Serie A side would likely offer him a lot more game time, as he would be the replacement for the departing Felipe Anderson.
What could be key is that Liverpool are able to offer him Champions League football, while Lazio only have the Europa League as an incentive.
This is all a bit like being offered fruit salad when there’s also chocolate cake on the table.
We wouldn’t be surprised if Shaqiri went for the latter option, and ate it too.
