Despite being an early season regular at bet365 Stadium this season, Erik Pieters will not finish the current campaign at Stoke City if L’Equipe are to be believed.

The French newspaper claim on their website that the Dutch defender is ‘on the verge’ of moving to France, having already travelled to Amiens, the club he will be joining.

Contracted with the Potters until 2020, there is no indication whether the Ligue 1 side will have a chance to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old signed for Stoke City from PSV Eindhoven back in the summer of 2013 for over £3m, and has since made 206 appearances for the club, scored three goals and picked up 11 assists.

Two of those goals came this season against Preston North End and West Bromwich Albion.

Featuring 21 times in the Championship this campaign, the Dutch international fell out of favour in recent weeks, appearing just once in the last six league games in a 3-1 loss to Brentford.
