Real Madrid icon Guti has detailed what incoming Liverpool signing Darwin Nunez still has to improve upon if he is to be a hit at Anfield.
The Uruguayan forward is on the verge of completing a big-money move from Benfica to Liverpool, who will pay over €100m to secure his signature.
He will arrive on Merseyside with a growing reputation, having scored 34 goals in 41 games in all competitions for Benfica last season.
Indeed, he has 47 goals and 16 assists in 84 games since arriving at the club from Almeria in September 2020.
His time with the Spanish club was also fairly goal-laden, with a tally of 16 goals and three assists in 32 games, an impessive total for a player who is yet to reach his 23rd birthday.
Liverpool are certainly hoping he can score the goals to keep them competing at the top of the table, and Guti, who worked with him at Almeria, is confident of a bright future, but believes there is one area Nunez needs to improve upon.
“He’s a pure striker; he’s very good in the box. He’s very quick, very powerful, and he’s good in front of goal. It’s still a bit difficult for him to create a link-up when he’s not in the box, but I think he has a great future.
“At the time, I was surprised that no Spanish club, after the good season he had at Almeria, did not look at him, and he went to Benfica.
“I think the Portuguese league has been good for him to make that leap to get a bit more experience and sign for Liverpool.”
