Rangers have now tabled an offer for Fenerbahce’s Martin Skrtel, according to claims coming from Sabah in Turkey.
The 33 year old Slovakian is reportedly a target of new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard. Recently Gerrard was confirmed as Graeme Murty’s replacement at Ibrox, and it’s led to a string of players with Liverpool connections being linked to Rangers.
It’s claimed Rangers have offered £4m to Fenerbahce, and a decision is yet to be made on whether a move will go ahead.
The Scottish Premiership club will see David Bates leave Ibrox this summer for Hamburg, whilst there’s doubt popped up around Bruno Alves at various points over the season, and bringing in a central defender is likely.
Sktrel has spoken to the Fenerbahce board about his future, with the possibility of a reunion with Gerrard at Rangers, and there’s no definitive answer from either player or board yet.
The Turkish media love a rumour and it’s impossible to work out whether there’s real truth in this or it’s all encouraged again by the Liverpool connection, but it must be said that whilst excitable, Turkey’s sport media tend to be first on transfers out of their country.
Gerrard has already brought in Scott Arfield from Burnley and more players are likely to follow the midfielder.
