Belgian side Anderlecht are keen to keep Manchester City striker Lukas Nmecha at the club next season, but will need European football to do so.
Nmecha joined Anderlecht on loan in the summer transfer window, heading out from Manchester City’s Under 23 side for regular, first-team football under Vincent Kompany.
He’s been a massive hit at the club, with 14 goals in 26 games in all competitions so far exactly what both parties were hoping for.
The 22-year-old is expected to return to Manchester City in the summer, but according to DeMorgen, Anderlecht are keen to extend the loan deal for another year.
That’s something Nmecha would be open to too, with it stated it is known he would be ‘keen on an extended stay’ at the club.
However, Anderlecht are aware that such an arrangement would only be possible if the club secures European football for next season, with the initial loan deal not including a purchase option.
Thus, Anderlecht have work to do if they are to keep the Manchester City youngster, with them currently fourth in the table after 27 games.
In the interim, their fans have started a ‘charm offensive’ to convince Nmecha to stay, recently unfurling a banner at the club that reads “Lukas, you haven’t had the chance to meet us yet, stay another year.
This is something Nmecha is aware of, having shared the photo on Instagram with heart emojis, another sign he’d be happy to extend his stay.
That, though, appears to be in Manchester City’s hands, who have a decision to make on the striker come the end of the season.
