Leicester City defender Jannik Vestergaard has insisted he is fit and firing ahead of the international break and not suffering any long-term issues.
The defender has been speaking to V2 about the international break and his recent injury, which has left him out of action for Leicester since the end of August.
He started the season in the heart of Leicester’s defence for the draw with Tottenham and the defeat to Fulham but was on the bench for the clash against Aston Villa on 31st August.
He’s been out of the squad since then, missing draws with Crystal Palace and Everton, the 4-2 loss to Arsenal and the 1-0 win over Bournemouth.
His absence hadn’t been explained up to this point, but was notable given Vestergaard was a key player for Leicester last season, making 44 appearances in all competitions for them as they returned to the Premier League.
Despite his absence at club level, he’s a part of Denmark’s squad for this international break when they take on Spain and Switzerland.
And the 32-year-old has insisted that all is well with him personally, with his absence for Leicester more precautionary than anything serious.
“Status is good. I feel good and feel fresh and motivated. I’m generally in top form game-wise. So, I’m 100 percent ready,” he said.
“I have been back in training for the past week. Nothing to worry about. It’s the Premier League and it’s high-level competition. And so, it is also about the places. So, there is nothing strange about it.
“But it doesn’t help to wiggle around and make yourself incapacitated when there is competition for places. It’s not usually the best recipe.”
