A few days ago, L’Equipe ran a feature on Julian Draxler’s PSG situation.

Since PSG put together their trident of Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe, Draxler has been edged out. Or, rather, edged further back and getting some time in midfield.

It’s unlikely to be a long term solution, especially for the biggest games, believe L’Equipe, and Draxler is said to feel a lack of confidence from Unai Emery.

Then the article mentioned contact had been made with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.

Sport Witness covered it at the time, but we weren’t entirely sure whether L’Equipe meant the clubs had contacted Draxler or the player’s camp had been doing the contacting. So we made that clear.

Now the story has run away with itself. For example, Bild today have an article claiming ‘Klopp wants to bring Draxler to Liverpool’.

The German newspaper go on to say ‘Liverpool are planning for the second half of the season with the World Champion’ and ‘Allegedly, the Reds are seeking a loan of the midfielder from Paris St. Germain. Coach Jurgen Klopp (50) is said to have already contacted PSG to learn about a deal’.

All of this is wrong, it simply wasn’t said by L’Equipe.

To try and clarify things further, Sport Witness’ French speaking Thomas Coast had a look, and confirmed the original L’Equipe article actually said it’s Draxler’s camp who have done the contacting.

So Liverpool have been contacted to see how they’d feel about signing Draxler on loan in January.

There was no slant given on Liverpool’s answer.
