Manchester United were strongly linked to AS Monaco’s Fabinho during the summer transfer window, and the stories have already started about a possible transfer in January or next summer.
At the end of the transfer window, French newspaper L’Equipe reported that if Manchester United wanted to sign the Brazilian before the window shut then it would have to be a huge deal, given the time constraints, with a suggested price of €30m.
That would be the same in January, when the player may cost even more, having signed a new contract. Despite the renewal, it’s not thought Fabinho is looking at a long term Monaco future, and the club would likely not be averse to cashing in next summer.
Fabinho scored against Lille at the weekend, playing in midfield, to continue a good goalscoring run. He played so well that he found himself in both L’Equipe’s Ligue 1 Team of the Week, and Gazzetta dello Sport’s European Team of the Week.
The 22 year old is primarily a right back, but Monaco have been playing him in midfield. Any possible Manchester United transfer would likely be subject to Matteo Darmian returning to Italy.
The Daily Express reported a week ago that Manchester United will ‘dust off the cheque book again in four months to splash £15million on Monaco right back Fabinho.’
If he carries on his current form then they’ll have to double it.
