Amid alleged interest from Liverpool for Jan Oblak, there appears to have been some confusion regarding the Slovenian’s contract situation.

Said to be looking for a new goalkeeper, the Reds have been linked with the likes of Alisson and the Atlético Madrid shot stopper to replace Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet, but both would be very expensive.

The latter of the two has a release clause of around €100m, and while the Brazilian in Italy doesn’t, Roma aren’t going to let him go for cheap.

However, comments made by Enrique Cerezo on Wednesday night to Radio Marca appear to have been misconstrued by the foreign media, according to AS.

The Atlético Madrid president was quoted as saying “He’s already renewed, I believe”, and quite a few outlets reported that as him meaning recently.

However, the Spanish newspaper on Thursday explain he was indirectly referring to the fact the alleged Liverpool target renewed two years ago, signing a new deal with the La Liga side, keeping him at the club until 2021.

That means there has been no new release clause, and he’s still available for the modest sum of €100m if someone so wishes to trigger that in the summer.
