Elche goalkeeping coach Marcos Abad has confirmed he’s on his way to Middlesbrough.
In an official statement on his website, the 36-year-old described the move as a “very important professional opportunity” and he’s moving to the Premier League club immediately.
Abad will now be going the same way as Víctor Horta and Paco Peral, as both left Elche to join Aitor Karanka at Middlesbrough. The first of them currently works as head of recruitment, and the other one is a club scout.
Abad’s move had already been reported by Diario Informacion on Monday, who after saying he was breaking his contract with Elche, called him a a ‘revolutionary’ in the job.
The coach spent seven seasons at Elche, and besides the message to the second division side, also thanked the city, the staff and the club fans for the support during these years.
A move to the Premier League is already considered to be a great opportunity for every professional in Europe, and given that Abad will now will work with compatriots Aitor Karanka and Victor Valdes, it shouldn’t be much difficult in terms of adaptation for him.
