Rafael Benitez ‘gains strength’ against rivals for the Real Sociedad job, report Marca on Saturday in news that may be concerning for Newcastle United supporters.
Several managers are being linked with taking over at the Basque club and Benitez is being brought into the candidate list by the Spanish newspaper.
It’s not a big report for Marca, tucked away on their back page, and it’s not really a story which is gaining pace elsewhere in the Spanish media.
Real Sociedad wanting to appoint Benitez of course makes a lot of sense given the manager’s experience and ambition. But the Spaniard would first have to decide his time at Newcastle United is over.
Benitez has clearly enjoyed his time at the club despite frustrations with the club’s ownership and spending on transfers. 
Should he feel things aren’t going to improve at Newcastle in the near future then there’s every chance Benitez will consider his future.
