The Spanish media love covering Manchester football this season. Having Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and Jose Mourinho at Manchester United… it’s a perfect combination for stories.
Monday’s edition of Marca explain that Guardiola has failed to match Mourinho’s winning run record at the start of a Premier League season. With a nifty little graphic, Marca show Mourinho managed to get to nine games, in his first Chelsea spell, whereas Guardiola’s ended after six.
Marca believes there’s a signifcance here, because Manchester City’s run of two games without a win has ‘humanised’ Guardiola, after it was beginning to look like he’d sweep all before him.
On the same day Manchester United put in a good performance against Stoke City, only to be let down by sloppy finishing, Marca say Guardiola’s men failed to really get going against Tottenham, and even their passing was off.
In the Guardiola versus Mourinho battle in the Spanish media, played out through Manchester City and Manchester United, Marca think this was a better weekend for the men in red and their manager especially.
