The world’s football media is today caught by the news that Lionel Messi should leave Paris Saint Germain this summer, following his strife with the French club.

Hopeful that the 35-year-old could return to Barcelona, the Spanish press has given big coverage to that, and there’s also a mention for Newcastle United.

That comes from Sport, who’ve been relaying a report from Goal regarding Messi’s future.

There it’s claimed that several Premier League clubs are willing to battle for Messi’s signing, with sides from the Saudi League also pushing for him.

That’s bad news for Barcelona, since that’s the kind of money the Catalan side can’t compete with. And that’s also where Newcastle get a mention.

Sport point out that the Magpies play in the Premier League and have Saudi owners, and therefore could end up being an attractive option in both ways, especially for being in the Champions League next season.

We must admit those arguments do make sense, and Barcelona will certainly be worried about the competition from Newcastle as they dream of having Messi back in the Camp Nou.

However, this move seems very unlikely.
