Earlier today we brought together some snippets from Spain on Matthijs de Ligt and Manchester United.
There wasn’t really a great deal in it, as we explained, the story was still at the ‘He wants Barcelona, but Manchester United are offering more money’ stage. Just stumbling on without any further big claims.
Well, not so long later there’s much bigger claims.
Catalonia’s RAC1 are reporting De Ligt is now ‘very close’ to a Manchester United move, because they’ve made him an offer which is too good to turn down.
Their well known journalist Gerard Romero has also tweeted it, saying: ‘De Ligt very close to United! Not definitive but very good proposal for the player’
These would be the biggest claims to come out of Spain regarding Manchester United and the Ajax defender.
So what to make of it? Well, given it’s a Catalan radio station it would be assumed the information has come from Barcelona’s end of a potential transfer.
Therefore, the next logical assumption is it’s what Mino Raiola has told Barca about his client.
Now, whether Raiola is trying to put more pressure on at the Camp Nou is obviously unclear.
This hasn’t been picked up anywhere else yet, but then Barca are about to kick-off in the Copa del Rey final so there’s other things happening.
On RAC1, we checked some recent claims we’ve covered from there.
In January, they said Arsenal wanted Denis on loan for €2m with an option to complete a full signing for €20m. That happened, but to be fair it was being reported everywhere else in Spain too.
In March, they claimed Barcelona had contacted Luka Jovic’s entourage and he was a priority signing for them.
