Sevilla are pretty good at transfers, so when they recently identified Joe Allen as a possible signing it was a good sign the footballer has been doing something right.
Monchi, the club’s director of football, is renowned for having a great eye for players and whilst it doesn’t always work out, he has a much better record than most.
However, Sevilla’s wishes to sign Allen have hit a problem: Euro 2016.
The Welshman’s performances have shown just what he’s capable of and put the player’s price up. Regional Seville newspaper Estadio Deportivo have covered claims from England of the new asking price being €17m.
Estadio Deportivo say that price is simply out of Sevilla’s reach, so any hopes of a transfer are now gone.
Allen is still only 26 years of age, despite it feeling like he’s been around forever (in the nicest possible way), and if he does leave Liverpool then there’s surely set to be several takers.
But another good performance against Portugal tomorrow, and then maybe (hopefully) also in the Euro 2016 final, could see Jurgen Klopp decide his Welsh wizard can’t be allowed to go anywhere and should be given a new contract.
