As much as we love a transfer rumour, sometimes you cannot approach one without pouring scorn all over it.
These rumours are so absurd, so completely unlikely to happen, that doing anything other than treating them as ridiculous would be foolish.
And unfortunately, El Desmarque linking Real Madrid to Tottenham striker Harry Kane is one such rumour.
According to the website, Madrid have put the Spurs star on their shopping list as a potential replacement for Karim Benzema.
It’s believed the Frenchman is in his last season at the Bernabéu and that would undoubtedly be the case if Florentino Pérez can get Kane from Tottenham.
The website claims Kane has been on Madrid’s ‘agenda’ for the last two seasons and they believe he could leave if Tottenham don’t secure Champions League football this season.
Pérez is a big fan and, while Kylian Mbappé is his first choice, he would be costly and so Kane is the backup option to the Paris Saint Germain star.
Tottenham’s asking price for Kane ‘may be close to €200m’ which is still high, but one Pérez would be willing to pay as Kane ‘guarantees’ goals.
Indeed, Real Madrid’s staff believe Kane would adapt well to life in Spain, mainly because Madrid are among the highest crossers in Europe, and that would suit the striker.
What El Desmarque don’t seem to acknowledge is that Tottenham probably wouldn’t be interested in a sale, even for €200m. Similarly, Kane has a contract until 2024, meaning there is little way Madrid could pressure them either.
Kane, of course, could be keen on the move but he’s never shown an indication he wants to leave, even when Tottenham are struggling.
Instead, this feels more like El Desmarque thinking up the easiest transfer rumour possible and running away with it.
