Maxi Gomez is likely to be one of the La Liga players most involved in transfer rumours this summer. He was heavily linked with a move during the January window, but wasn’t keen on moving midway through the season so continued with Celta Vigo.

Since then, several Premier League clubs have been linked with a move for the Uruguayan, but it’s Barcelona who have made the first move, according to claims on Tuesday.

Mundo Deportivo take claims from Galician radio that Barcelona made a €25m offer in recent days, which has already been rejected by Celta.

Gomez has a €50m release clause, and Celta want to push for more than is on the table. Whilst the club know Barcelona have other options, they don’t want to see their striker go for less than €40m.

Another factor is that 20% of any transfer fee is payable to Gomez’s former club, Defensor Sporting.

This would all fit in with claims from the Catalan media this week that Barcelona are looking for a No.9 to provide competition to Luis Suarez.
