It’s very unlikely Raul Jimenez leaves Wolves during the current transfer window, or even that he’d want to, but looking a little further into the future it would be no surprise to see rumours growing.

The player’s father last week made it clear there’s been interest in the striker, and now that he’s had a good season at Wolves, after struggling in Portugal with Benfica, his status has risen again in world football.

Speaking to ESPN Mexico, Jimenez was asked if he’d like to play football in Spain again, and replied: “It could be a great opportunity, I think that right now I am in the best league there is, today, for competitiveness. Although this season Liverpool and Manchester City went ahead by many points, from then on we all fought to be, for example, us, in the seventh position, we beat practically all the teams that are above us. So I think I’m doing well in England, it’s a great football, but yes, why not one day come back to Spain.”

Jimenez signed for Atletico Madrid in 2014, but wasn’t able to make enough of the chances he was given at the club. West Ham tried to sign him, with their then manager Slaven Bilic even talking about the process in a press conference.

Little did Bilic know that Jimenez was already on his way to Lisbon to sign for Benfica.

In his first season with Wolves, the 28 year old scored 17 goals and added seven assists, he’s contracted at the club until June 2023.
