Arsenal wanting to secure Hector Bellerin on a new contract is a topic which has been batted between the English and Spanish media for a while now.

Tuesday’s edition of Catalan newspaper Sport wants to make sure everyone knows they were first with the claims, something which would be hard to verify.

Sport’s slant had always been that Barcelona had found out Arsenal were trying to get Bellerin signed up, and so Barca’s idea was to try and stop that so they had a reasonable chance of signing the player next summer.

It’s stated that Barcelona are confident the talks won’t come to fruition and therefore Barcelona will be given a boost to sign a player described as the club’s number one priority for next summer.

Screen Shot 2016-10-04 at 10.29.52Sport believe renewing Bellerin is part of a triple deal Arsenal want sorting out before the end of October, the other two players being Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

The potential transfer fee figure of €35m is mentioned once again, but that would depend on Bellerin not signing a renewal and informing Arsenal of his wishes to leave.

It may be noteworthy that Sport aren’t giving this story quite as many column inches as they were a few weeks ago.

Until Bellerin signs a renewal, Sport will continue to believe this transfer is a distinct possibility.
