Carlo Ancelotti’s move from Everton to Real Madrid ‘will be announced’ in the next few hours as the Spanish push to bring him back to the club.
That’s according to Marca, who say Real Madrid want to sign up their replacement for Zinedine Zidane ‘immediately’.
The newspaper explains that those in charge at the Bernabeu do not want to delay the arrival of their new coach any longer, and as such, the appointment of the Everton boss will be announced ‘in the next few hours’.
Ancelotti’s name has emerged as a contender for the job over the weekend, with reports in Spain indicating that talks has been ongoing for four days, and the Italian had made it clear he would be open to a return.
He is currently the favourite to take the job and ‘never closed’ the door to a return as his first exit was ‘cordial’, unlike Zidane’s.
That is why he is open to a return, and Madrid are pushing for it, although there is no mention of negotiations with Everton regarding compensation.
That seems strange, given Ancelotti is tied down to a deal until 2024, so there is a significant payment to be made to get him out of that.
Indeed, Everton would be loathed to lose the Italian, who has also stated on more than one occasion that he is happy on Merseyside despite finishing tenth this season.
That contract alone would be a major stumbling block to a deal being imminent unless the two clubs have already agreed on a deal behind the scenes.
That is entirely plausible of course, but we need a little more information than Marca are providing before we’ll seriously believe this is as close as they are saying it is.
