On Monday we covered claims from France that Claude Puel has taken himself out of the running for the Saint Etienne job. The Southampton manager’s lawyer was said to have spoken to Saint Etienne and made them very aware Puel isn’t interested in the role.
That stance is even regardless of Puel getting sacked by Southampton or not. Should the French manager leave the Premier League club it was claimed he still wouldn’t have an interest in taking over at Les Verts.
Pretty conclusive.
However, L’Equipe would appear to disagree. The French newspaper report in their Tuesday edition that Puel is one of five candidates who ‘remain in contention’ to take over from Christophe Galtier at Saint Etienne.
Puel’s future has been a topic of discussion in the French media for a while, with many Southampton fans frustrated with the manager’s first season. Whilst the club’s issues may have more to do with off the field decisions, Puel has taken the brunt of it.
