Former Fiorentina midfielder Massimo Orlando has praised Southampton forward Graziano Pelle and Sunderland winger Emanuele Giaccherini for their contribution to Italy’s run in the Euros. The two Premier League players have been a major influence getting their country to the quarter finals of the competition.
Speaking to TMW, Orlando was asked who he thought had been the best players for Italy so far this summer. The Fiorentina youth coach said Pelle has been a focal point for Italy so far in the tournament, and will be important in the game against the Germans.
Orlando pointed out there have been other players who have done well, but its Pelle and Giaccherini who have stood out.
“Pelle has given us energy to the team with the press. The Germans are dominant but he still plays for the team, he is the first to start the press. Even De Sciglio is having a great Euros. But Pelle and Giaccherini are proving exceptional,” said Orlando
Pelle and Giaccherini played their part during Italy’s 2-0 win over Spain in the last round on Monday. Giaccherini was key to his country getting the first goal by pressuring David de Gea following Eder’s free kick, whilst Pelle wrapped up the victory with a late goal.
