Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo have a little piece in their Monday edition on Cristian Tello and the footballer’s future. A couple of years ago a Tello transfer story would have been big news for the Barcelona leaning press, but things have since changed.
Loan moves to FC Porto and Fiorentina haven’t exactly been spectacular and Tello now probably needs a club he can see as a permanent home. A full transfer will also bring in some pennies for Barcelona.
Mundo Deportivo say Southampton are willing to beat any offer from Italy for Tello, which doesn’t really sound very Southampton-like. Swansea City are also linked as interested, but it’s Southampton’s need which is pointed out, with Sadio Mane’s exit mentioned.
Towards the end of June, claims came from Italy that Southampton had actually started some kind of talks to sign the player. Southampton officials were said to have travelled to Spain and spoken to both Barcelona and Tello’s agents.
