Earlier this week, when we covered Southampton’s scouting trip to watch Portimonense playing Belenenses, we pointed out that the Saints could be interested in Shoya Nakajima.
As there’s normally not much to see in a match like this and Leicester City were recently linked to the Japanese star, we thought their Premier League rivals could now be following the lead.
It turns out that this interest is backed up, at least according to what newspaper Record writes today. They say Southampton have been following the player’s performances for Portimonense and could soon make an official offer.
Record claim Leicester City were keen on offering €20m, but their current plans around the player aren’t clear.
Nakajima has four goals and three assists in nine games for Portimonense so far. As the club doesn’t have the same financial strength such as Benfica or Porto, it’s very likely that a Premier League side can easily convince them to sell.
