Italian website Serie B News comes up on Wednesday with an interesting report on Southampton’s latest mission in the country.
They write that Saints sent scouts to the second division match between Spezia and Ascoli last weekend, which ended with a 3-1 win for the home side.
The trip was made to watch Ascoli striker Gianluca Scamacca, who’s been having some success in Serie B, and is now followed by the likes of AS Roma and AC Milan.
However, the officials were surprised by another player’s performance. The report says Spezia defender Martin Erlic had a great game, and ended up drawing attention from the scouts present.
With Spezia and Ascoli both fighting for promotion this season, it’s probably a good plan from the Saints to scout them now, otherwise these players would become a lot more expensive once they get to Serie A.
There are no details of talks for either of the two players for now.
