Southampton forward Manolo Gabbiadini has told the Italian media he wanted to remain at the club despite offers.
The player was linked with a move back to Serie A during the last transfer window.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Southampton player was asked about interest from other clubs: “I would have evaluated better the offers that my agent Silvio Pagliari had submitted to me. But I really wanted to stay in the Premier. I did not want to give up.”
When Gabbiadini joined Southampton in January 2017 there were promising signs. The player scored on his debut against West Ham, and then followed this up with two goals in the EFL Cup final defeat to Manchester United.
However, the goals dried up last season, and the Italy international found the net just 5 times in 28 Premier League games.
The Southampton player was linked with the likes of Bologna and Lazio during the last window, but it seems he wants to prove himself in the English top flight.
Gabbiadini made his first league start of the season at the weekend in his side’s defeat to Chelsea.
