Oriol Romeu is not only a talented footballer playing for Southampton in the Premier League, he also seems a genuinely nice guy with a big feeling of community responsibility.
From Ulldecona, the midfielder is often back in his own area attending award ceremonies for youngsters and others in sport, and helping out wherever he can.
Now he’s taking things further and has confirmed he’s part of a project which is starting to help young footballers from his Terres de l’Ebre region.
Romeu is going to be working with others to form the Futbol Formatiu de les Terres de l’Ebre. He’s working alongside Edu Albacar, who used to play for Elche.
“I will try to contribute my experience, everything that I have been able to live in my career both in the training stage and in professional football. Together with Edu we hope to give more opportunities to the kids in the area so they can learn to the fullest and enjoy playing football, trying to make the experience they have with us as enriching as possible.”
The plan is to team up with bigger clubs in Spain so that those youngsters who impress the most will have somewhere to move up to.
