This week, we’ve covered rumours from Spain claiming Southampton are interested in Atletico Madrid striker Luciano Vietto.
The Spanish press hasn’t been mentioning many other possible destinations for the player, which makes it look like the Saints could find a bargain, as Vietto is not in Diego Simeone’s plans for the season.
But some competition showed up, at least according to Tuttosport today.
The Italian newspaper claims Vietto is the hottest name on Sampdoria’s wish-list for the end of the market, as the club seek a replacement for Patrik Schick.
However, we must recall that Sampdoria are said to be closing in on signing the Brazilian starlet Luan. Although Tuttosport only considers the player as an option, the latest reports from Brazil say the Italian side will be paying €18m and the player is moving in January.
So unless Sampdoria are really keen on spending a lot over the next two windows on forwards, the signing of Luan could end up giving Southampton a clearer run.
