Real Valladolid are interested in a move for Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu should he be available this month.
That’s according to Ghana Soccer Net, who say the centre back may fancy a return to Spain after struggling for game time with Southampton this season.
The young defender joined the Saints in a £10.8m deal from Valladolid in the summer after impressing with the Spanish side and being linked to the likes of Atlético Madrid.
He’s yes to make an appearance for Southampton this season, though, having sat on the bench as an unused substitute for the six Premier League squads he’s been a part of.
That’s not ideal for a young footballer who needs regular playing time to develop, and Valladolid would like to take advantage to bring the player back.
They are said to be ‘monitoring the situation’ and are interested in re-signing the centre back, but will also ‘consider a loan option’ due to his lack of appearances.
That is also given as a reason why Salisu might ‘fancy’ a move, particularly as he ‘excelled’ during his time with the club.
Whether Southampton are willing to let Salisu go isn’t mentioned, with Ralph Hassenhuttl having insisted recently that they will be taking it slow with the player.
That would suggest they want to keep him around, but should they decide to let him go, it seems Valladolid will be waiting, alongside other clubs in Spain and some in the Premier League if GSN are to be believed.
