Southampton striker Paul Onuachu is set to join French side Metz on loan until the end of the season in a deadline day move.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the Ligue 1 club ‘will attract’ the striker from Southampton today as they look to rebuild their offensive line.

Onuachu has been with Southampton since the January transfer window, when he arrived in a move from Genk that month as the Saints tried to add goals in their battle against relegation.

Like most of the signings that month, though, he was unable to make an impact and he is yet to score or assist a goal in 12 appearances for the cub.

He’s been linked with a move away this summer as a result, with a mass exodus from Southampton following their relegation to the Championship.

The belief had been that he would go back to Genk but L’Equipe report that he will instead be on the move to France.

According to their information, Onuachu is set to join Metz on loan ‘in the coming hours’, with the French side working on a deadline day deal with Southampton.

There is no mention of wages being covered, a potential purchase clause or anything of that nature, but we’re sure those details will come out in due course.
