Southampton have made an offer for Serie B forward Amato Ciciretti, reports Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (via Area Napoli).
Speaking on Sky Sports Italia show ‘L’Originale’, Di Marzio claimed Southampton are competing against Napoli, Chievo and Genoa for the signing of Ciciretti.
Ciciretti plays for Serie B side Benevento and has six months left on his current deal.
Di Marzio suggests the Serie B side would be more willing to do business with Napoli, rather than Southampton, but any decision is expected only after January 12th when Benevento’s president, Vigorito, returns to the town.
The 23-year-old started off his career at AS Roma, before making his permanent move to Benevento. Ciciretti has four goals and six assists to his name this season in 21 appearances, and it remains to be seen if he will be allowed to leave in the middle of the season especially with Benevento eyeing Serie A promotion.
It would certainly be a strange one for Southampton. Cicretti isn’t especially young and hasn’t got an especially good record, maybe this is an agent angling for a renewal offer.
